CLIENT AND PROJECT:
St. Louis Science Center Agricultural Pavilion
St. Louis Science Center Foundation
The St. Louis Science Center’s new agricultural pavilion and surrounding site development will house the Science Center’s new GROW exhibit. The GROW exhibit will include more that 40 agriculturally based exhibits incorporating chemistry, economics, life sciences, culture and technology and will be open year-round. Along with an introduction to farming, there will be facts about water, weather and how plants work, and a greenhouse with a working aquaponic farm, in which fish fertilize the plants. This exhibit will demonstrate the science behind our food supply and teach visitors more about the food that we eat.
Most of the exhibits will be outdoors, with interactive exhibits designed by Oakland, Calif., firm Gyroscope. Renowned architect Gyo Obata, working as the lead designer with architecture and design firm Arcturis, designed the pavilion containing permanent classrooms and toilet rooms. The pavilion structure is supported by curved glue laminated wood beams with a curtainwall glass system at the north and south ends. The pavilion will be used not only for exhibits, but also meeting and event space. The site around the pavilion will contain hands on, interactive agricultural exhibits. Interface Construction performed as both the Construction Manager and General Contractor.
