St. Mary’s Emergency Department Expansion

Interface constructed an addition and renovated a portion of the Emergency Department at St. Mary’s Hospital, totaling over 36,000 square feet. The 4080 SF addition to the underground parking garage and 7500 SF second floor shell space, adding 11 patient rooms and 8 behavioral health room. The renovations provided include isolation rooms, negative pressure rooms, resuscitation rooms, canopy and site work. 8500 SF of area finished were renovated to match new construction and 7060 SF of existing ED space was renovated with upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing.
This project was originally budgeted in February 2018 from schematic plans. Early packages were created during design to get the critical mechanical and electrical equipment on order before construction dwgs were done. During design development a lot of options were priced – alternate nurses stations, skylights, canopy louvers, retaining wall options, addition of a second floor, eliminate staircase option, option to remove saucer canopy, pneumatic tube system and alternates for the decontamination system.
This project was done in seven phases in an occupied emergency room department. The project took over 18 months. This project came under budget and on schedule.
